Scouting

The Indiana Geological Survey supports the advancement of youth in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) through scouting. Youth scouts can develop self-confidence, self-reliance, and social skills while advancing through earth science-related workshops.

As part of a diverse outreach program, the IGS provides the following workshops for Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops.

Volunteer Opportunities

From kids and young adults, retirees, professionals, community service organization, the IGS offers volunteer opportunities for anyone wanting to donate their time and talents to earth science. Current opportunities include:

WeDigBio

Volunteer to make biodiversity data available for worldwide research and education through WeDigBio, or the Worldwide Engagement for Digitizing Biocollections. This worldwide digitization event involves the transcription of fossil, plant, and archaeological specimen images to a worldwide database.

Indiana Limestone Photograph Collection

A previously unknown collection of over 25,000 architectural photographs has been rescued by the Indiana Geological Survey. These unique historical photographs of buildings from across the country showcase the important legacy that Indiana Limestone played in the architectural and social history of the United States. Contact us for ways that you can help preserve history.
