The mission of the Center for Geospatial Data Analysis is to provide scientifically-based decision-support systems to a wide variety of technical and non-technical users, in order to promote the environmentally sound use of land, water, and mineral resources. This mission is accomplished by employing state-of-the-art technology in geographic information systems (GIS), statistical and numerical analysis, and field instrumentation to develop and (or) apply GIS data base applications to resource evaluation and environmental issues, statistical and numerical modeling - particularly pertaining to issues of ground and surface water hydrology, real-time monitoring of hydrological conditions, and non-traditional training via internships and apprenticeships. |

The Geochemistry Section conducts geochemical research and provides analytical services to characterize rock, mineral, soil, and water for the Indiana Geological Survey. Section staff collaborate with other Survey researchers, IU faculty and students, and professionals outside the IU system to plan and implement geochemical investigations that enhance our understanding of the natural geological resources and environmental hazards in Indiana. Staff also conduct educational activities that include training in specific analytical methods for advanced students and demonstrations, lectures, and field trips for K-12 students and laypersons. |

Provides access to records, maps and samples relating to oil and gas operations, subsurface bedrock geology, and applied sedimentology. In addition to basic information on Indiana's petroleum the section provides research results and educational outreach efforts. These efforts are designed to assist the professional as well as the lay person in documenting and understanding the geological elements relating the state's energy resource endowment and the challenges associated with its usage. |
