Indiana Division of Oil and Gas database

Funding Source:

Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Division of Oil and Gas

Status:

completed — Definition of status type

Project Director:

Charles W. Zuppann and Neal Schroeder

Issue

Access to records of oil and gas wells is important to the petroleum industry, environmental and regulatory agencies, and the general public.

Objective

Develop a database system for Division of Oil and Gas that will facilitate recording and accessing data from petroleum test wells in the state.

Approach

The database management system being developed for Division of Oil and Gas will be coordinated with the Indiana Geological Survey's (IGS) own petroleum database. Although some of the data may overlap, the Division of Oil and Gas system is oriented toward regulatory information, whereas the IGS database focuses on geological information associated with drilled wells.

Products

The completed database will reside with the Division of Oil and Gas for maintaining records, however, the database can also be accessed by IGS staff.

Benefits

The Division of Oil and Gas will be better able to perform its regulatory and record-keeping functions, and communication with the public and organizations will be improved.

Locations Affected:
