Funding Source:

Indiana Department of Environmental Management

Period of Contract:

27 Aug 2001 to 31 Dec 2003

Status:

completed — Definition of status type

Project Director:

Issue

A GIS database of solid and hazardous waste sites, coupled with geologic basemap information, will greatly enhance the efficiency of Indiana Department of Environmental Management's Office of Solid and Hazardous Waste Management.

Objective

The Indiana Geological Survey will create a GIS database of 18 solid/hazardous waste sites throughout central Indiana.

Approach

The project involves three phases: 1) Acquiring maps, 2) Collecting locational information (global positioning system or "GPS") from the waste sites, and 3) Producing GIS layers for use in a relational database.

Products

The finished product includes a digital GIS database on CD-ROM Also on the CD-ROM are the global positioning system (GPS) data collected at the various sites, and all original digital source-map files.

Benefits

The GIS database will enhance the function of the Indiana Department of Environmental Management's Office of Solid and Hazardous Waste Management, which serves the public through regulation enforcement to protect ground water, surface water, and other aspects of the natural environment.

Locations Affected:
