Access to records of oil and gas wells is important to the petroleum industry, environmental and regulatory agencies, and to the general public.
Facilitate access to information related to oil and gas wells in Indiana and to provide this information in ways that will allow it to be accessed efficiently by users.
The Petroleum Database Management System (PDMS) provides information on significant aspects of a well's history of drilling and production. The system stores and makes historical well information available online, as well as integrating results of recent drilling activity. The PDMS contains essentially complete statewide coverage of the following well data: 1) coordinate well location, 2) total depth, 3) ground elevation, 4) completion formations, intervals, and initial production test results, 5) well location description, 5) main events in a well's history, completion date, 7) operator name, 8) farm name, and 9) well number. Current data entry includes all newly arrived well data, and formation elevations and log information.
The entire set of more than 70,000 wells is being systematically processed to produce maps, database files, production and exploration summaries, and access via the Web. The database is available on the Indiana Geological Survey Web site: http://igs.indiana.edu/pdms/index.cfm
Anyone who desires subsurface information pertinent to the state of Indiana may access the petroleum well database and extract well information. The availability of information of this kind will save exploration costs and expenses for gathering background information.
