From the late 1940s until the early 1980s, the Geochemistry Section of the Indiana Geological Survey (IGS) analyzed carbonate rock material obtained from cores, quarries, and outcrops. This material is not available in an up-to-date computer database, and the paper copies are deteriorating.
The original records of the work are located in old notebooks and outdated computer records and must be checked for accuracy and completeness before being transferred into a modern database.
All the data will be organized and verified on a county-by-county basis.
The final product will be a searchable database of all carbonate rocks analyzed by the IGS.
The tabulated information can be searched by location geographically, as well as by the depth from the surface. It can also be searched for chemical content and sample thickness, indicators of quality. These historic data, which may have been lost, can now be utilized in new studies.
