As part of his duties as this year’s President of the Association of American State Geologists (AASG), Indiana Geological Survey Director John Steinmetz joined his colleague Jon Price, Director of the Nevada Bureau of Mines and Geology, in presenting one of this year’s Pick and Gavel Awards to Nevada Senator Harry Reid in the U.S. Capitol on March 24.

The Pick and Gavel Award was commissioned by the membership of the AASG to recognize individuals who have made significant contributions to advancing or facilitating the role of geoscience in the public policy arena. New Mexico Senator Pete Domenici was the other recipient of the 2004 awards.

Previous years’ awardees are listed on the AASG Web site.
