IGS Geologist Receives International Recognition at ICCP Meeting in Hungary

Alan Cook, ICCP President (left), presented the first Organic Petrology Award to Maria Mastalerz. Alan Davis (right) introduced her and read a list of her accomplishments.

The Organic Petrology Award was presented to Maria Mastalerz at the 56th annual meeting of the International Committee for Coal and Organic Petrology in Budapest, Hungary on September 17, 2004. Mastalerz received the award "in recognition of her outstanding contributions to organic petrology and leadership in promoting the development and applying innovative methodologies to the study of coal."

The Indiana Geological Survey geologist is the first recipient of this award, which was established last year to recognize outstanding contributions in the field of coal and organic petrology.
