Gems, Minerals, Fossils, Meteorites and more at Monroe County Show June 24-26

The 40th Annual Gem, Mineral, Fossil Show and Swap will be held June 24, 25, and 26 at the Monroe County Fairgrounds on Airport Road, west of Bloomington. Sponsored by the Lawrence County Rock Club, Inc., gems, minerals, and fossils from around the world (even a few meteorites from out of this world!) will be available for browsing, sale, or for trading. Lapidary materials and supplies, rockhound and prospecting supplies, 4-H project material, science project material, and jewelry will also be available. A silent auction, which allows the bidder to obtain specimens at inexpensive prices, will be held throughout the show with proceeds to benefit mineral and fossil clubs.

Educational exhibits and presentations will also be offered. The Indiana Geological Survey will roll out a new effort focused on fossils of Indiana and will provide free information about geology, fossils, and minerals of the state. State Geologist, Dr. John C. Steinmetz and staff of the Geological Survey have been collecting detailed data and making images of fossils for a new book. A poster will show off some of this work.

Show times are Friday, June 24, 10:00 AM to 6:30 PM, Saturday, June 25, 9:00 AM to 6:30 PM, and Sunday, June 26, 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. This is a family-friendly activity so bring the kids! Admission is free.
