Interactive viewing of aerial photos and topo maps now possible with A GIS for Indiana

Users of A GIS for Indiana can now interactively view aerial photographs and topographic maps of any part of Indiana. Under Map Layers, select the Reference folder. Then select the box labeled "DOQQ" to view aerial photographs or the box labeled "DRG" to view topographic maps. In order for the aerial photos or topographic maps to become visible, you must zoom-in to an area of interest so that the view scale is 1:100,000 or greater (scale is indicated in the lower right corner).

The aerial photographs (DOQQs) were obtained from the United States Geological Survey (USGS) and were taken in 1998 and 1999. The topographic maps are digital versions of the 7.5-minute (1:24,000 scale) topographic quadrangle maps of the USGS.

For GIS users, the DOQQs and DRGs (as well as elevation data known as DEMs) can be downloaded by clicking the link titled "Download Raster Data" that can be found at the top of the map. Additional information is available from the "Help" link.
