More than 400 Geographical Information Systems (GIS) users and vendors attended the 2005 Indiana GIS Conference in Indianapolis, March 9-10. Lt. Governor Becky Skillman opened the conference with an address highlighting the value of the technology and datasets to Indiana citizens, and emphasized the importance of GIS to the future of the state. Staff of the Indiana Geological Survey (IGS) assisted in conference planning, registration, and logistical support. IGS staff presented several technical sessions highlighting some of their GIS service and research efforts. A GIS Atlas for Indiana, an online GIS developed by the IGS and available through this Web site, and its tutorial was awarded the 2005 GIS Achievement Award in the category of State and Federal Government during the conference.
This annual conference is a major asset in the continuing education and networking of Indiana GIS users and managers.
