Demonstration of GIS Atlas for Indiana Hillshading Feature

Move your mouse pointer over the image to see how it looks when hillshading is applied.

The hillshading feature can greatly enhance visualization of topographic features. After turning on the layer named "Topo Maps" and zooming in to a scale of 1:100,000 or closer, hillshading can be added by turning on the underlying layer named "Topogaphic Hillshading."

The image above shows a portion of the Brownstown Hills, south of Brownstown in Jackson County. The Brownstown Hills area, which is part of Jackson-Washington State Forest, is isolated from other hilly regions to the west and south by the valleys of the East Fork White River and the Muscatatuck River. The large bright blue area in the upper left part of the image is Starve Hollow Lake.
