This study presents an assessment of the potential of Indiana coals to be used in IGCC technology. Four major coal beds, the Danville, Hymera, Springfield, and Seelyville Coal Members, have been investigated. New data for these coals were generated, with a special emphasis on the characteristics of the mineral matter in the coal. These data are integrated with the previously available data and used to map those properties of the coals that are most important for IGCC application. These maps form the basis for grading Indiana coals for IGCC. Evaluation of the coals in this report is divided into three groups: a) Evaluation based on basic coal quality parameters such as heating value, moisture content, ash yield, and sulfur content; b) Evaluation of the ability of coal and coal char to gasify (reactivity); and c) Evaluation of slagging based on mineral matter characteristics. Finally, this report combines grading with coal availability information for the four coal beds studied.
