The Indiana Public Land Survey Geographic Information System digital data set is available for free download or through the Publication Sales office as Computer Database 3, CD-ROM ($10). This information is accurate to 1:24,000, which matches the scale of U.S. Geological Survey 7.5-minute topographic maps. The data set is available as an export coverage and has been subdivided into shapefiles based on the type of line or polygon entity they represent. This means that the lines and polygons for State boundary, all county boundaries, township and range boundaries, and section boundaries are separate shapefiles. Data documentation, Federal Geographic Data Committee compliant metadata, will accompany each data set. Base information of this nature had previously been unavailable in digital format, so this data set will be a vital part of many digital mapping projects throughout the State.

The export coverage and shapefiles are in a ZIP format for easier download (you'll need to unzip them before you can use them), but many are still quite large, so you may want to purchase the entire set on CD-ROM.
