AASG/USGS
Geoscience Data Preservation Techniques Workshop
July 14 & 15, 2009, Bloomington, Indiana

The Association of American State Geologists and the U.S. Geological Survey are co-sponsoring an inaugural AASG/USGS Geoscience Data Preservation Techniques Workshop. Attendees from State and Federal Geological Surveys are invited to attend and participate.

The two-day workshop will feature thematic sessions dealing with all aspects of geological and geophysical data preservation including materials handling, archiving, preservation, access, digital catalogs, metadata creation, and XML Mark-up language.

Oral presentations will be scheduled to allow for ample discussion time following their presentation. Posters sessions will also feature short oral presentations by their authors to stimulate viewing and feedback. Poster presentations can also feature live, on-line demos. All sessions will be plenary.

Prospective authors are encouraged to submit abstracts of 250 words or less to John Steinmetz (jsteinm@indiana.edu). State your preference as to oral, poster, or either form of presentation. Because of the limited time on the 2-day schedule, there may not be enough time to accept every oral presentation. The abstracts will be reviewed by a panel consisting of AASG and USGS representatives, and authors will be notified shortly after the deadline if their abstract was selected for presentation.

Deadlines:
Last day for acceptance of abstracts: Friday, May 15
Notification of accepted presentations: Friday, May 22

The proceedings of the Workshop will all be available on-line shortly after the meeting, located at a permanent URL (PURL) that can be readily referenced and cited. Provisionally, the proceedings will include an abstracts volume, links to presentations (PowerPoint or poster pdf), summaries of discussions, and a toolkit of resources contributed at the workshop.
