Mine maps in your attic?

If you have any relatives or friends that might have worked in one of Indiana's historic coal mines, you might have a "gold mine" of information in your attic or closets.

The Indiana Geological Survey (IGS) is always in search of old coal mine maps and records to update the Indiana Coal Mine Information System. Many undocumented mine maps may be found in libraries, historical society's files, or personal files of former mine employees. If you know of any such maps or old mine company records (including photographs), please contact Licia Weber (e-mail: at the IGS, 611 N. Walnut Grove, Bloomington, IN 47405.

Any maps or records that are brought to our attention will be checked against our existing inventory. If any are found to be new and unrecorded information, they will be carefully scanned and the data entered into our system. All maps and records will be returned to their owners.

Your session for the Indiana Geological Survey is about to expire in 30 minutes. Please refresh your broswer or click here to restart your session timer.
