Troubleshooting Problems with Interactive Maps

If you experience problems while using one of the IGS mapping Web sites, please take the following actions before requesting technical support:

1. Check the IGS IT Notices Web page for news regarding scheduled maintenance or unplanned outages.

2. Follow the steps below, which provide solutions to the most common problems.

A. Use Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 (or higher), with a screen resolution of 1024 x 768 or larger. Other Web browsers such as Mozilla Firefox, Netscape, Safari, or Opera may cause various errors while accessing IGS interactive maps.

B. Clear the cache of your Web browser:

Internet Explorer 7
From the Tools menu choose Internet Options. From the Internet Options dialog select the General tab. Under the Browsing History section, click the Delete button. In the resulting Delete Browsing History dialog, click the Delete files button.

Internet Explorer 5, 6
From the Tools menu choose Internet Options. From the Internet Options dialog select the General tab. Under the Temporary Internet files section, click the Delete Files button. From the resulting Delete Files dialog, choose the option to Delete all offline content.

C. Disable all pop-up blockers associated with your Web browser and specialty toolbars, such as Yahoo, Google, or MSN.

Internet Explorer 5, 6, 7
From the Tools menu choose Pop-up Blocker > Turn Off Pop-up Blocker.

Custom toolbars
Many custom toolbars include their own pop-up blocker utility, which may be disabled by clicking a button on the toolbar.

D. If you are receiving the error titled "Form for posting request not found," your organization may be using Novell BorderManager Proxy Server. A possible solution is provided in an ESRI Discussion Forum. The suggested solution is a two-line piece of code that is added to a file called "PROXY.CFG" (see the suggestion by Chad Hubich). You may need to contact an IT person in your organization if you do not know whether you have this firewall in place.
