Framework Layers for Indiana

Framework Layers...

Indiana Spatial Data Framework

Indiana Spatial Data Framework, an advanced Web site for skilled GIS users. The Indiana Spatial Data Framework provides the basic data "foundation" needed by users of geographic information systems (GIS). Our purpose is to increase data sharing and to make available the seven individual basic framework data layers for Indiana from a single location. The data layers that make up the Framework are a seamless statewide basemap upon which state agencies, local and county governments, universities, and the public and private sectors skilled users can build their own GIS. This site is not an online map service. It does allow for viewing the framework layers, but only to help skilled GIS users determine their needs. Experienced GIS users can download selected data layers to use in their GIS or connect to their GIS application through a GIS Server Internet connection or Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) standards Internet connection. The results of these efforts will help provide integrated information for analysis of issues and decision-making at all levels of government, university research, and business. It also provides a common frame of reference for GIS users.

The Indiana Spatial Data Framework Web site is hosted by the Indiana Geological Survey (IGS) at Indiana University. It was initiated by the Indiana Geographic Information Council (IGIC) and funded by the Indiana Counter-Terrorism and Security Council (C-TASC) and the Indiana Geological Survey. University Information Technology Services (UITS) at Indiana University provides the 2005 Ortho-imagery layer. An online presentation of the Indiana Framework concept is available from the Indiana GIS Initiative Web site. The seven framework data layers are also available on the GIS Atlas for Indiana Web site.
