The purpose of this Web site is to illustrate how historical aerial photographs,
compiled using computerized methods (known as "Geographic Information
Systems," or "GIS"), can be used to provide snapshots of a changing community.

The west side of Bloomington and part of western Monroe County, Indiana, were
chosen for this project because this area has experienced much development, and
additional development is likely to occur in the near future.
