Field Name

Field Name is the name of the currently defined Petroleum Field where the well is located. A petroleum field is a geographically contiguous area containing one or more productive petroleum wells (including gas storage wells) which has been assigned a Field Name for convenience and classification.

A comprehensive discussion of petroleum fields can be found in the PDMS Help Topic Petroleum Field.

Field Name is shown the Well Header section of a Well Record Page and is stored in a data field in the Location Table. Every Field Name in the Well Header has a corresponding entry in the Fields and Production Module.

Two terms sometimes included as part of a Field Name have specific meanings:

Consol. (Consolidated)

Consolidated means the field area was consolidated or combined from two or more previously defined fields. One of these existing field names is selected for the new field name, to which the abbreviation "Consol." is added. For example, Black River Consol. was formed from the former fields Black River, Roger, and Roger South.

NAS

"NAS" added to a Field Name signifies that the field is, or once was, gas productive from the New Albany Shale (Mississippian), or from its more or less stratigraphic northern equivalent Antrim Shale (Devonian).
