Modified
from a map titled "Generalized Ground-
Water Availability," Indiana Department of
Natural Resources, Division of Water Web
site.
More than two-thirds of Indiana’s drinking water is
derived from ground water. Supplies of ground water
are unevenly distributed across the state.
These supplies are potentially subject to degradation
by a variety of agricultural, industrial, and
construction activities, such as the use of fertilizers
and pesticides, the development of confined animal
feed lots, the disposal of industrial wastes, the
extraction of coal and oil, sewage overflows, and
malfunctioning residential septic systems.
